Teachers at SAU

The South Asian University will recruit and retain competent faculty by providing competitive and attractive emoluments, congenial work environment and adequate opportunities to scale academic advances on an enduring basis. Visiting Faculty programmes will be encouraged for roping in additional expertise.

The SAU will have a three-tier teacher structure comprising Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors. To attract brilliant and talented people to faculty positions, attractive salary and associated benefits packages have been designed for all.

The faculty strength will be maintained around 1 faculty for 10 students to enable close supervision and effective guidance as per the needs of the students. Accordingly, the total faculty strength is estimated around 300 at the end of the initial five years of the University’s operation (2010-14), when the University will have 3000 students, and will ultimately rise to 700 faculty members for 7000 students.

Specific criteria will be defined for recruitment of each category of faculty including experience, scholastic achievements and performances, research activities and publications and overall academic reputation/achievements. They will be hired through open competitive processes from within the SAARC region and beyond.

Faculty will be drawn mainly from the region but, in order to ensure quality and recognition, attempts will be made to include up to 20% from outside the region, strictly confined to those who have proven track record in the academic arena.

Besides, faculty exchanges will be promoted with reputed institutions both at the regional and international level.
