NEW DELHI, Nov 11 (APP) - Pakistani students will get admission in South Asian University being set up under the umbrella of SAARC in 2010.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Prof. G. K Chadha, Chief Executive Officer of South Asian University project said the initial cost of the project will be about $ 200 million and five thousand students will be able to get high standard education in the University.

Chadha was flanked by Pakistani academician and member of Task force of the project Syed Imtiaz H. Gilani who also Vice Chancellor of NWFP University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar. Other members from the SAARC region were also present in the press conference.

Chadha said a two-day meeting of the experts and academicians connected with the University project discussed in detail criteria for recruitment of faculty and admission, disciplines to be taught and other related subjects.

He said the university will have sub- campuses in all the countries and their rules and procedures will be governed by the main campus to maintain a uniform standard.

The education will be far cheaper as compared to other advanced countries but quality and standard will be the same, he said adding the university will help to bring people closer to each other. The university will act as a catalyst to bring peace and harmony in South Asia, he observed.

Syed Ali Gilani to a question said seven or eight schools will be set up in the university and each school will have different disciplines. All disciplines will be taught in the university.

He said Pakistan will play its active role as students from Pakistan

will also benefit from the quality of education of the university. The investment will have great return, he observed.
